Singapore Market Week Ahead: Ex-Dividend Events, NODX Data, COE Open Bidding, and Global Data Highlights

July 15, 2024

This upcoming week, investors should brace for a deluge of data from Singapore and beyond, including corporate earnings, economic data releases, and policy announcements.

Small-cap company Qian Hu Corporation Ltd (SGX:BCV), a Singapore-based ornamental fish service provider, will report its first-half FY2024 earnings. Investors should look closely at key metrics such as revenue growth, profit margins, and any strategic initiatives highlighted by the management.

In addition to corporate earnings, SGX investors can expect dividend and entitlement events from Lion-OCBC Securities APAC Financials Dividend Plus ETF (SGX: YLD/YLU), SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (SGX: D07), and the CSOP iEdge S-REIT Leaders Index ETF (SGX: SRT/SRU).

Singapore will release its non-oil domestic exports (NODX) data for June, a key indicator of trade performance. Additionally, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) open bidding results for automobile categories A, B, and E will be announced. COEs play a crucial role in Singapore’s vehicle ownership system, affecting car prices and availability.

In terms of global developments, China’s Communist Party’s Third Plenum will take place, likely announcing long-term economic reforms and policies, including changes to the fiscal system. These reforms could have significant implications for China’s economic stability and growth trajectory.

China’s second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data reveal is expected to show a slowdown to 5.1% from the first quarter’s 5.3%. This data will be crucial in determining whether China can achieve its 2024 GDP growth target of around 5%.

Other key economic indicators for China this week include industrial production data, retail sales data, and property market data such as new home prices and residential property sales.

Across the Pacific, the United States will be in the midst of its earnings season, with major companies like BlackRock Inc (NYSE:BLK), Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ: NFLX) set to release their earnings.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell’s speech will be closely watched. The US economic data releases this week include June’s data on retail sales, building permits, industrial production, and the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Manufacturing Index. Bloomberg will also release the July United States Economic Survey.

Given the lineup of data and events, investors should stay informed and be ready to adjust their strategies based on these developments to make informed investment decisions.
